Spring Break Reads

books and sunglasses by the beach

There are few things as delicious as sinking into a riveting novel while on vacation. Sitting under an umbrella by the pool or the beach while our toes play with the sand provides the perfect setting for a great read. For those of us who can’t get away, reading offers an escape even when we can’t take a vacation. Here are three books that make perfect Spring Break companions.

Belgravia by Julian Fellowes

Those who loved Downton Abbey will adore Belgravia! The writing is exquisite, which makes the scenes come alive and the characters practically jump out of the page. The plot is extremely well-tied together--there are no loose ends here!--and shifts in ways that make it unpredictable. You won’t be able to put it down!

The Rules of Magic by Alice Hoffman

This book wraps you in its magic from the very beginning. The coming of age tale takes place in the 1960s and features three Owens siblings coming to terms with their family’s legacy, including a love curse. Filled with the intense beauty of first loves, self-discovery and family relationships, this book will stay with you long after you finish it.

The Rules of Magic is the prequel to Practical Magic as the two sisters, Franny and Jet, are the aunts who take in the Sally and Gillian Owens.

The Paris Secret by Karen Swan

This book has all the elements of a quintessential beach reads: a red-hot romance; scenic travels through Paris, Vienna and cobblestone streets in the South of France; a voyeuristic peak into the exclusive art world. It is also filled with twists and turns that will leave you breathless.
